For the third time, Ballinderry Parish Church outside Lisburn, has sent a team to Mekelle, Ethiopia to visit and assist Karen Salmon, their Crosslinks mission partner, in her work. The team consisted of 17 members representing a wide array of experiences and ages. Before going, Crosslinks equipped the team members through six training sessions which helped them bond together, give them confidence, learn how to effectively communicate the Gospel and encourage and challenge them.

Laura Moffatt - Autumn 2010

Recently we were delighted to welcome Karen Salmon to our Church Fellowship. Karen is currently on leave from Ethiopia where she has been working with Crosslinks since 1993. Karen is a registered general nurse and health visitor and at the moment is visiting her family in Greenisland. In Ethiopia she has been working on a new project at Mekelle in the north-east of the country. She teaches HIV/AIDS Awareness to young people in orphanages, schools and Youth Centres. She also visits the prison and holds Bible Study classes with the prisoners. Karen told us that more than three million Ethiopians are infected with the HIV/AIDS virus.

The 15-24 year old age group has the highest number of infected individuals. They need to be educated in order to raise their awareness and learn how to prevent the disease from spreading.

Please pray for Karen in her work there and for the people of Ethiopia where life is hard and where political unrest remains an issue. We appreciate your support.
